The first semester of Chemistry, we focused on learning the different types of reactions that take place with chemicals. After throughly learning about them we applied our knowledge. We were assigned the Chemical Dominoes project. For this project we were told we needed to create a hands on and fun way for students to learn about different components of chemistry. We needed to include a sequence of 5 chemical and physical changes. Those changes include; a release of a gas, a double and single displacement reaction, a physical change, an energy transfer, and the lighting of an led. We also had to apply these changes in the form of a hands on board game. My group decided to base ours off of the popular phone app, Trivia Crack. Below I have attached our instructions, a detailed description of our reactions, and a few videos and pictures of our board game in use.
Our Instructions:
Our Reactions:
Release of a Gas: Mentos and Coke
Release of a Gas: Baking Soda and Vinegar
Double Displacement Reaction: Potassium iodine and Lead nitrate
Double Displacement Reaction:Copper Chloride and Aluminum Metal
Single Replacement Reaction: Silver nitrate and Zinc Metal
Single Replacement Reaction: Hydrogen nitrate and Zinc Metal
Single Displacement Reaction:Copper Chloride and Aluminum Metal
Release of a Gas: Baking Soda and Vinegar
Double Displacement Reaction: Potassium iodine and Lead nitrate
Double Displacement Reaction:Copper Chloride and Aluminum Metal
Single Replacement Reaction: Silver nitrate and Zinc Metal
Single Replacement Reaction: Hydrogen nitrate and Zinc Metal
Single Displacement Reaction:Copper Chloride and Aluminum Metal

Improvements:
- Think outside the box when it comes to reactions
- We could have started working on the game board sooner because then we could have maybe done more with it
- I really enjoyed this project
- I was unsure about it at first because I felt a little overwhelmed because we started too late, but it all ended up working out
- Our game was a big hit
- We had people come back to play our game for a second time
