Our last project of the semester was to develop a solution for a world problem. Currently, California is going through a drought. But, lately there has been a lot of rain. My group decided we needed to figure out a way to conserve as much rain water as possible. We decided to make a filtration system that will be placed in the gutters of homes. That filtration system will then feed filtered water into a very large holding tank. That water can be used at the family's convince. Once we figured that out we realized that we should do more. So we added the solar panels to the design. The solar panels will be placed on the roof and the energy captured from the solar panels will then be converted and stored in a generator for the family. With the new addition to the plan we decided our solution was no longer just about saving water but helping a family continue a daily routine during a natural disaster or even live off of the land. With our idea a family wont have to pay the expensive electric or water bill anymore if the family lives in a wet climate.
This project I personally think went very well. We got to pick our groups so I got to work with my friends and we worked so much better as a team because we are friends. We nailed down an idea very quickly and we executed the plan in a timely matter as well. We could have worked on the look of the prototype a little more and we could have added even more to the project.
This was an engineering project so there weren't any physics concepts directly involved in this project.

This is a sketch of what the holding area will look like.
